I’m Oliver Shi, 16 years old, attending Wakeland High School in Frisco, TX. I started developing apps during the summer of 2014, when Apple released Xcode 6 along with the new programming language, Swift. At first, I knew nothing about this new language as it was brand new. A few weeks later, I created my first game, Rock-Paper-Scissors. After I learned the basics of Swift, I quickly became addicted to programming. I started brainstorming ideas for an app to enlighten people’s lives and I came up with the idea of Defend The Earth. With months of hard work and careful planning, I finally launched this game. In three days, the game had been downloaded in 23 different countries. My goal is to have “Defend the Earth” to exceed 1 million downloads.
Since then, I have also founded a software company, Grandeso LLC and am currently developing an app that allows you to learn more about local, independent restaurants nearby. Furthermore, in the summer of 2016 I interned and The Younity Group, a local startup developing innovative apps. There, I developed front end and back end software for numerous apps. Again, the the summer of 2017, I was rehired as a mobile application developer for the company, where I continued to develop its platforms.
In my sophomore year of HS, I was elected as TX DECA District VII president. In this position, I serve thousands of members and dozens of schools throughout the DFW area. With this position, I have had the opportunity to attend Texas DECA’s Leadership Summit during the summer, host a leadership development conference for the district, attend DECA’s Ultimate Power Trip in Philadephia, and host the TX DECA District VII CDC.
In the summer of 2017, I attended Stanford’s Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes, studying business and entrepreneurship. There, I collaborated with some of the brightest students in the world while learning about business from qualified professionals such as individuals on the Forbes 30 under 30, executives from Google, and many more.
Now, I am running to be a TX DECA State Officer. I feel that my passion for DECA combined with my skillset will enhance the current offerings of TX DECA. I have the goal of empowering all TX DECA members.
